Care and Caring: The Affordable Care Act, Health Coverage and LGBT Tennesseans

Last year we announced a joint project between PFLAG Nashville and the Tennessee Health Care Campaign (THCC) that set out to offer information to the LGBT community about health insurance options, discrimination and disparities in healthcare that LGBT Tennesseans face, and how we can ensure that LGBT Tennesseans are treated fairly in matters relating to healthcare.  We are very pleased to announce the culmination of this work, together with the help of many community leaders, resulting in a 60+ page report that details how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) advanced both healthcare and civil rights for the LGBT community.

The report highlights…

  • recent data, demographics and health characteristics of LGBT Tennesseans;
  • increase of access and rights under the ACA;
  • assessing health plans for best value and potential barriers to service;
  • recommendations and resources for improving the health and lives of LGBT communities in Tennessee.
